Georgia Goes Bronze for Team GB!
We are proud to announce the success of Georgia, an 18 year old local girl from Salford, who lives with autism and a learning disability. Despite this, she swims as an S14 Para swimmer.
In the last twelve months Georgia has been placed on the British Swimming Podium Potential Pathway and has gained national titles and improved all her times and personal bests.
In March, Georgia achieved the qualifying times and was selected to represent Great Britain in the World Para Swimming Championships in Manchester, where 70 countries participated. She secured a bronze medal!
During the year, in the build up to the World Championships, she travelled with British Swimming to Turkey, Berlin and Limoges for Camps and World Series competitions. Here, she again improved her personal bests and achieved 2 silver medals. To get to this standard, Georgia trains nine times a week in 2 to 3 hour sessions. A typical day starts at 4:00 am and she consistently trains 4 to 5 hours a day.
Georgia comes from a single parent household. Her Mum is unable to work as she is a carer for both her mother and Georgia and so the increased costs of international competition are financially challenging. Georgia’s goal is to compete at the Paris Paralympics in 2024 and Salford Foundation Trust in partnership with Robert Gregson at Amrin-Resources are providing funding to support her journey, including her next international training camp.
Mum and her Coach have been asked to identify the other self-funded activities that Georgia needs to take part in prior to the selection for Paris with a view to seeing how she can be supported in her ambition to participate in Paris.
